Steatite.
Steatite is a crystalline form of magnesium silicate that is widely used in industrial applications, especially in the power sector.

Thanks to its excellent properties of electrical insulation, its smooth surface and its low porosity, steatite is an ideal material for the manufacture of small electrical components. It is a low-loss insulating material that can be produced at low cost; it offers good electrical resistance and is capable to functioning safely even at high temperatures.

Ceramic steatite is an extremely versatile material, used mainly in electrical engineering. Thanks to its ease of moulding and sintering, it is suitable for an extensive array of applications, including insulating plugs and bushings for terminal outlets, fish-spine beads, washers, sockets and spacers. In addition, steatite is used to make resistor cores and enclosures, as well as insulators for domestic appliances.

Sectors of use.

Steatite is widely used in numerous industrial sectors thanks to its excellent insulating properties and its versatility. In electrical engineering, it is used to manufacture insulating components and technical moulds, which make the most of its dielectric rigidity and mechanical resistance. In the domestic appliance sector, steatite is utilised as an insulator for various pieces of equipment. In addition, in industrial systems, it is deployed as an insulating support or spacer, demonstrating its utility in complex applications on a large scale.
Did you know...?

Steatite is a metamorphic rock similar to jade, albeit more powdery in appearance. It is also know as soapstone due to the presence of talcum. Thanks to its crystalline structure and its insulating properties, it is an excellent material for use in electrical engineering. It enables easy moulding and sintering in an extensive array of forms. Its industrial applications include high-frequency isolating products, cores and enclosures for resistors, as well as insulators for domestic appliances.
